II. Introduction

Mondulkiri is located along the Northeast boarder of Cambodia. As Cambodia’s largest and most geographically diverse province it makes a unique experience for any traveler. Inhabited by 40,000 people, Mondulkiri’s diversity in ethnicity rivals no other place. The majority of people descended from the Phnong tribe but other groups include Kraul, Khmer, Kregn, Ro Ougn, Streng, Lao, Chray, Khauy, Cham, Thome and Tom Pone. In the dry season, much of the vegetation becomes a rich brown colors and in the wet season dozens of shades of lush green vegetation makes for stunning photographic opportunities. With just two people per square kilometer, sprawling fields, coffee plantations, and jungle, you’ll feel like you’re the only one there!

SENMONOROM TOWN

Senmonorom was established in 1962, is the capital of Mondulkiri, and is a quaint little community nestled between lush hills and two small lakes. With an average elevation of 800m above sea level, Senmonorom can get quite cool in the evenings, especially in the beginning of dry season, so it is recommended that you bring an extra layer of clothes for night time. With minority villages surrounding the town, picturesque and serene waterfalls, it makes for great stop for travelers who want to relax and take in some fresh air! On the road to Senmonorom you will often see Phnong people toting their distinctive wicker baskets loaded with goods to sell in the market.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

There is some local bank, but does not service for VISA cash advances and no place to cash travelers cheques in Senmonorom, so bring enough cash to support your stay and activities. Electricity runs in the market during the daytime from and most guesthouses have generators, however, the electrical supply can vary from day to day. It is suggested that you bring a flashlight for late night breaks. You can make calls within Cambodia using service providers 012, 016 and 011 and there is some Internet access but not working well at this time.

Mondulkiri province has a climate like other areas in the country, there are 3 seasons:

Rainy season: June-October
Cool season: November-February (Temperature down from 25c- 12c)
Hot season: March-May (Temperature from 20c -30c)

IV. Road to Mondulkiri

Travelling to Mondulkiri, Senmonorom Trip uses only the best transportation to carry the guests by 4 Wheel driver with air-con and also bus equipped with a TV and video system. We begin our journey to Mondulkiri at 7:30am by National Road No.6 and No.7 which follows the Mekong River. On our way, we pass through Skun that is the most interesting place for delicious spider, Memot district in Kampong Cham province and arriving in Snoul, a small town located about half way to our destination which the place we have lunch at local restaurants, then we begin our assent through the mountains and onwards to Senmonorom town. We arrive around 5:00pm, but in raining season it will be late. Having traveled a distance of 372 km for approximately 8 hours. Along the way we can stop at places to relax, eat and take pictures. Places such as the near deep valley and on the beautiful stream provide excellent photographic opportunities. The condition of this road has improved significantly because of the recent reconstruction efforts of the Cambodia Construction Force in April 2002.

V. Tourism attraction

Oramis Farm and Resort

This resort was constructed by a villager and is located near Senmonorom town. Beautifully decorated, there are hammocks for relaxing, delicious food to consume, a place for swimming, riding elephant and a large fruit farm. For those looking for something more potent enjoy the unique flavor of the minority rice wine! You can also see how electricity is made and distributed to the farm and resort at the hydroelectric station located on this property. Farmers also use the electricity to spray water on their crops. At the present the Oramis Resort became the museum of the minority handicraft.

Minority Villages and Tribe Performance

There are many minority villages to visit in and around Senmonorom. The Phnong people, who are considered the “original” Khmer, still live in a similar manner from previous years. With unique housing and methods of farming, trips to the Phnong villages are an educational experience. Learn how the Phnong people take oil from the trees and sell it to fishermen to waterproof their boats and discover the traditional way Phnong people harvest their rice – without the aid of a machete.

Jungle Trekking and Elephent Trekking

Get intimate and interactive with the jungles of Cambodia by hiking through them on foot or on the back of an elephant. Be on the lookout for wildlife, including deer, monkeys, and wild boar and explore the varieties of vegetation.

If you want to get even closer, why not sleep in the jungle? We can arrange a camping trip into the jungle through members of the minority tribes. Spend the night under the canopy of the jungle and listen to the sounds of the insects.

Bousra Waterfall

Famous throughout Cambodia for not only is stunning beauty and tranquility but also for the torturous yet amusing road to get there, Bousra is a natural wonder. Bring a lunch, sit by the falls and enjoy the sounds of falling water because it is 37km away from Senmonorom and takes all day for a return trip. Bousra is one of the only double drop falls in Cambodia. The second drop approximately 18m and the third drop 37m. We have swimming pool in the third step.

Romanear Waterfalls (1) and (2)

There are two waterfalls with the same name: Romanear. The first one is located about 18km south of Senmonorom and the second one is off the main road near the Oramis resort. There are swimming spots located at the first and second Romanear. It is best to have a guide to find these falls, as they can be difficult to find on your own.

Dak Dam Waterfall & Handicraft workshop

With a greater volume of water, Dak Dam could be called the big brother of Monorom Falls because it is very similar in size and shape. It is located near the Phnong Villiage of Dak Dam and is difficult to find on your own.

Monorom Waterfall

Easily reachable by motorbike, this waterfall is located about 3km from town. Although it is small, many Khmers go there to swim and enjoy lunch by the water’s edge and surrounding jungle.

Dakramon Mountain

This mountain is related to tribe’s history and also a respect-place for the villagers. On the mountain there is old man Call “Ta Dakramon”. People came here for asking to release their disease or some problem in their life. In order to ask for their release they kill some of animal such as bedfellow and others with minority win.

Plantation Farms

This is also the most important place that you rare to see in around country, because of soil in mondulkiri is rich soil so many farmers are growing paper and coffee. If you have chance to traveling with us, you will see many wonderful farms around Senmonorom town with our guide.

Sea Forest

It is the most beautiful view, when we claim up to the top the mountain you will the thousand of forest and they look like the sea, but most in the wet season. It is 5 km from the Senmonorom town but it is hard to find if you don’t have guide because the road is no sign.

Orain Green Mountain

Orain is a name of the district but this area is the collecting of mountain and make very good view. All the visitors before they come in to the town they stop here make their brief to get the fresh air and took many photo.

Siema Biodiversity Conservation Project

This center is the on the way to Mondulkiri town, and established by Cambodian Government with cooperate with WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society). Their purpose is to conserve all wildlife in this area, so if you want to know some wildlife information you can come and visit this center.
